Streaming Glossary 2026 guide to Twitch terms, chat slang, and creator tools

Streaming Glossary 2026 | Twitch & Chat Lingo Explained

Streaming chat moves quickly, and the same term can appear across Twitch, YouTube, TikTok LIVE, Kick, and gaming communities. This short glossary covers a few common examples; the complete StreamSpell guide contains the full, expanding list.

Common streaming and chat terms

6-7

“6-7,” also written as 67 or “six seven,” is a deliberately nonsensical viral phrase used as an in-joke in short-form video and chat culture. It has no single fixed definition.

404 coded

“404 coded” is an internet joke for a moment when someone seems blank, confused, or disconnected, borrowing the familiar “404 Not Found” error message.

AFK

AFK means “Away From Keyboard.” In a livestream, a Be Right Back scene helps viewers understand that the creator has stepped away and the broadcast has not ended.

Drops

Drops are time-limited rewards offered through participating live channels. Requirements vary by campaign, so viewers should check the official campaign details and connect any required game account before watching.

Hype Train

A Hype Train is a Twitch event triggered by a burst of community support, such as subscriptions, gift subscriptions, or Bits. Matching animated stream alerts can help these moments feel connected to the rest of the stream design.

Raid

A raid sends viewers from one Twitch channel to another at the end of a stream. Creators often use raids to introduce their community to another broadcaster.

Subathon

A subathon is a stream whose timer or planned duration changes as viewers subscribe or support the channel. A dedicated timer and clearly explained rules help viewers follow its progress.
