StreamSpell Chat Box Widget editor with a live Twitch chat overlay preview and customization controls

Chat Box Widget for OBS: Show Twitch Chat on Stream

The StreamSpell Chat Box Widget displays Twitch messages directly on a broadcast, helping viewers follow the conversation in clips, VODs, vertical edits, and layouts where the platform chat panel is not visible.

What the Chat Box Widget does

This free, customizable Twitch chat overlay runs as a Browser Source. After connecting Twitch, you can control how messages appear without pasting code into your stream layout.

  • Show incoming Twitch messages and viewer names.
  • Show or hide avatars and timestamps.
  • Choose whether messages stack from top to bottom or bottom to top.
  • Set fade timing and the maximum number of visible messages.
  • Adjust colors, opacity, borders, spacing, and the preview canvas.

How to add the Chat Box Widget to OBS

  1. Open the StreamSpell Widget Hub and connect your Twitch account.
  2. Create or open a Chat Box Widget, customize it, and save your changes.
  3. Copy the widget’s private Browser Source URL.
  4. In OBS Studio, add a Browser Source to the scene where chat should appear.
  5. Paste the URL, set the dimensions, and send a test message before going live.

Compatibility and privacy

The saved design can be used in OBS Studio, Streamlabs Desktop, StreamElements, Meld, and other streaming apps that accept Browser Source URLs. Treat the private widget URL like a key: do not show it on stream, publish it in screenshots, or share it publicly.
